SPORTS RELATED INJURIES
Total Medical Physical Therapy is proud to work with area athletes who have suffered injuries while playing sports. Our Rego Park Physical Therapists are expertly trained in a variety of soft tissue and rehabilitation techniques to get you back in the game as quickly as possible. That is our # 1 goal. Our physical therapists will also educate each patient about the nature of their injury, and help strengthen the injured area to avoid future injuries. Physical therapy is extremely important in the proper recovery of sports injuries. Our Rego Park physical therapists will help our injured athletes better understand what caused their injury in the first place. Incorrect training methods and techniques, not warming up long enough, and a lack of conditioning are just a few causes of sports related injuries. Fatigue, overuse, and dehydration are also the cause of a lot of sports injuries as well.
We recommend a brace to protect the wrist while doing activities and especially at night.
Athletes participate in a wide array of sports and each injury is unique and needs to be treated as such. Common sports injuries treated in our Rego Park Queens office include; tennis elbow, golfers elbow, ACL tear of the knees, ankle sprain, groin pulls, hamstring strain, shin splints, and patellofemoral syndrome. The most common sports injuries are sprains and strains. Sometimes preventing common sports injuries is out of our control but often times sports injuries are preventable.
Our therapists help educate each patient to help avoid potential injury. Every workout should start with a gentle warm up which will increase blood flow to the muscles, increase body flexibility, therefore reduce potential for injury. If you haven’t been to the gym in a while or haven’t played a sport in awhile be careful and go slowly. Stop when you are fatigued.
